A treasure trove of Gaelic folklore
Canna House has a remarkable literary archive of around 900 Gaelic as well as a unique and important collection of Hebridean Lepidoptera ( butterflies and moths), all collected by folklorists John and Margaret Campbell in the 20th Centuty. Canna House is currently closed to visitors whilst undegoing an extensive and exciting refurbishment and interpretative programme but feel free to explore the beautful and extensive gardens, designed to attract John Campbell's favourite butterflies. The island and the house, are now maintained by the National Trust for Scotland - but it's been inhabited for over 9,000 years.
