Well… what a year it has been for George! From being shortlisted into the top 8 dogs, to being crowned Ambassadog, to travelling around Scotland visiting pet-friendly attractions and living up to his title!
Recently, George explored his past and heritage at Tomich, near Glen Affric. This beautiful secluded spot in the Highlands is said to be the birthplace of the ever-popular Golden Retriever. With the help of Tomich Holidays, George, alongside his owners Emma and Victoria, learnt a thing or two about his history whilst visiting the Guisachan Estate, which is said to have links directly to the history of the breed, a Lord Tweedmouth, from the 19th Century. There was even a photo opportunity for George!
In addition to a history lesson, George and his owners spent a relaxing weekend at the dog-friendly Kiltarlity Lodges, as part of the Paws for a Break Welcome Scheme, near Loch Ness, which offers fully-equipped, cosy cabins for a tranquil Highland Getaway.

George the Golden Retriever from Glasgow has been on many adventures across the country, from the sandy shores of Luskentyre Beach to the red carpet premiere of Tommy’s Honour in Edinburgh.
Recently, George and his owners went on an adventure around Glasgow and Loch Lomond, courtesy of Glasgow City Marketing Bureau and Love Loch Lomond. They explored their home city, dog-friendly sites, ate some ice-cream, and surfed (paddle-boarded) a few waves on the shores of beautiful Loch Lomond. During the summer, George and his owners, enjoyed a three-day holiday to Dumfries & Galloway, exploring the region’s green forests, sandy shores and checking out some of their dog-friendly attractions. See more of their adventures below:
George began his adventure exploring the grounds of Sweetheart Abbey, located south of Dumfries before venturing to the Mossyard Pottery in Gatehouse of Fleet where he had his paws printed in clay as a special Ambassadog souvenir!

It was then off to Laggan Outdoor Activity Centre where George and his owners had a tour of their new dog-friendly accommodation, and took part in some of their adventure experiences on the Solway Coast. However, no holiday would be complete without ice cream! An enjoyable and memorable moment from their holiday was trying one of the famous ice creams from Finlay’s Cream o’Galloway farm. Afterwards they continued their adventure by exploring more dog-friendly attractions and walking trails, such as the gardens at Castle Kennedy.

Owner Emma said: “George has had an amazing time on his trip to Dumfries & Galloway. We have enjoyed some fantastic walks in the region; there is so much for dogs and their owners to do. We have thoroughly enjoyed everything from the food to the activities and have been delighted by how dog-friendly everyone has been. We know that George can’t wait to bark about his adventures to all of his friends and we hope that we will be able to inspire others to plan their canine capers to the region.”
