Around 3,500 took to the streets of Glasgow on Sunday (4 June) for the Simplyhealth Great Women’s Run. The race was held in sunshine and clear skies, with participants running past iconic sights such as the Kelvingrove Art Gallery, Glasgow University, the Riverside Museum and the SSE Hydro, crossing the River Clyde via Bell’s Bridge then back over the Clyde Arc, before finishing in the beautiful surrounding of Kelvingrove Park.

Eglinton parkrun will witness a UK first on 17 June when James Trott becomes the first ever participant to take part in the event in a Joelette, an all-terrain one-wheeled chair. The team at JAPES will support James for his memorable experience.

Following on from the spectacular success of the 2017 Edinburgh Marathon Festival, runners can now take their place in the 2018 event. Early birds are now able to register for next year’s event at this year’s price.

As daylight fades in Edinburgh on Saturday evening (3 June), hundreds of runners will head for the hills to take on the iconic and historic Arthur’s Seat in Holyrood Park. The event is part of the Salomon Sunset Series, who are hosting evening runs across the UK this summer.

Wayney Ghebresilassie continued his dominance of the Babcock 10K Series with victory in the Shettleston 10K on Sunday (28 May). The winner of both the Babcock Helensburgh and Dumbarton 10K earlier in the month, finished well clear of the pack – clocking the fastest 10k in Scotland this year (30:11) to win the series prize.

Six-time Skyrunner World Series mountain running champion, Kilian Journet, has achieved what must at least rate as the endurance feat of this millenium by reaching the summit of Mount Everest at 8,848 metres within 26 hours – unassisted and without oxygen or ropes.

One star among the 30,000 plus who took part in this weekend's Edinburgh Marathon Festival was local man Scott Hutchison. Scott completed the 5k and 10k on Saturday before rising early for Sunday's half marathon and, subsequently the 26.2 mile headline event.

The 38th running of the world’s largest half marathon took place in Gothenburg, Sweden on Saturday (20 May). With 42,281 finishers at Göteborgsvarvet Half Marathon, the top steps were once again dominated by Kenyan athletes.
