One of Scotland's seven cities, Dundee has acquired a few names over the years - 'one city, many discoveries', 'jute, jam and journalism', and, very recently, a 'UNESCO City of Design'. But we think there's so much more that can be said about this dynamic, compact city!
In the heart of the city
Bustling Dundee has all the ingredients you need for a perfect city break. Shop 'til you drop as you browse through the latest styles in high street stores in the Overgate Shopping Centre and along High Street, or wander along Perth Road and find contemporary art galleries and quirky gift shops. Get your cultural fix and book tickets for a theatre performance or see what's on at the city's art centres and galleries.
Family discoveries
There are some incredible places to visit that will both fascinate and entertain. Explore the ship used in pioneering polar exploration, see the working of a Victorian jute mill, or expand your mind at the city's science centre. Dundee also has an ice rink, climbing wall, great parks and an amazing new swim and leisure complex, ideal for when you want to tire the kids out!
To the sea and stars
Just outwith the city centre lies the charming seaside suburb of Broughty Ferry. With a pretty beach waterfront, it's a lovely place for a stroll along the sand followed by an al fresco picnic, or perhaps a pub lunch in a traditional inn. Back in Dundee, get the best views of the city and the silvery River Tay and climb to the Dundee Law. As darkness falls, see the wonders of the night sky in astounding detail at Mills Observatory in Balgay Park.
