Surface Book with Performance Base - 256GB / Intel Core i7

purchased my Surface Book when they first came out about a year and a half ago. I've had essentially no problems - a couple of small glitches fixed in minutes by calling Microsoft support. I'm a lawyer and use it extensively for court and presentations. its been with me every day for 18 mos and its the best machine i've every used, and i've used plenty. i would like MS to please refresh this; maybe a little sleeker and offer a couple of different sizes. one thing i love is the large screen when working on documents side by side. anyway, thanks for the great device.

It's been quite some time since I bought my Surface Book. Coming up on a year and a half. The only difference in it and this computer is the keyboard, which MS will not sell separately. This is a terrible policy. You'd have less trouble upgrading an Ipad Air yourself. Microsoft releases an Upgradeable laptop, then released the upgrade for it, and told everyone that if you want it, you have to buy a whole new laptop -- for no reason. Will not buy another surface book (2, or the "new SB", or likewise) until Microsoft explicitly states that they will make these options available. This is the dirtiest business practice. You spend $3000 on a laptop, for them to release a new, faster keyboard in only six months, that is DETACHABLE, HOTSWAPPABLE, and works with the 'previous' model (the same EXACT top-end), without any separate purchase options.

I've had mine since the day the first generation came out. Never one bit of trouble - replaced my desktop 100%. Super powerful, beautiful, runs my multi-screen layout. What's not to love?

I bought surface book instead of buying a Mac Pro for my designing work. I was very disappointed. The Photoshop works slow, the Illustrator stopped working for so many times when I was doing my important projects. I tried Trouble Shooting but it did not solve my problem at all. I asked for whether I can upgrade to a higher Memory but Microsoft does not have this option for their surface book. I think I will buy a Mac pro again and use this surface book for watching video only, which I do not really need because I have a Mac air as well!!!!

We got this at work to see if these could become our default on-the-go computers. The ability to use this as a tablet was a no-go since our programs required the NVidia chipset to run the programs. It turns out that graphics card is in the Performance Base and would crash the programs if undocked to use as a tablet for OneNote. This COMPLETELY made the device useless.

As an extremely expensive device, I expect a premium experience, yet I am on my 8th Surface Book. Replaced 7 times (5 new in a box). SEVEN! No hope of a fix, either, as every unit has had a new unique failure. I'm not talking "freezes", I'm talking hardware failures. I just spent $273 (tax incl) buying MS Complete because I am sooooo worried about ongoing problems. It's too late, I can't return it anymore, so I'm forced, as in extortion, to pay for Complete to rescue myself from the horrible situation Microsoft has put me in. I have NEVER owned any product of any kind that has had such poor quality. A coworker bought one and is on his 5th unit. This is a $2,700 laptop, an outrageous price when the ridiculously bad engineering is taken into account. And to have to pay another $273 on top of that because I KNOW it's going to fail again? I'm being robbed! I tell EVERYBODY - friends, family, clients, acquaintances - do NOT buy any Microsoft hardware. Worst technology purchase ever!

I placed an order with expedited shipping and by early afternoon I received a second email verifying that the order had shipped-but when I checked I noticed that it was only the mouse portion of my order. I checked and saw that the Surface Book was still "processing" I called the following morning after the order still had not processed. I was told by that representative that despite it showing as "processing", the order had in fact "processed" and was slated to ship-that I should expect the order no later than Friday and should receive email tracking information shortly. I called later that night after still not receiving anything and was told that no, the order was in fact still processing and they didn't know why. They escalated it to "Level 3". Cue Friday, over 48 hours after I placed the order, and call to check what the issue was. Still unable to check on anything, still no order update, still no shipment. Ridiculously frustrating that no one could give answers.

I've had this computer for some time and feel confident to write a review on it. I have the i7 edition and by far it's the best multifunctional laptop I've owned. I run multi CAD software such as AutoCAD, Revit, Advance Steel and have had no problems what so ever. The response time for each function is exceptional. The detachable is a plus when it comes to taking notes on jobsites, or just simply sketching up a drawing with the pen. I chose this after reviewing a Mac which I've always wanted, but comparing specs, the pricing, and what each had to offer the Surface Book was the clear winner. I've seen a lot of reviews which have stated that it freezes, or they've had to exchange their laptop various times, but as of now I haven't had any of those problems. I hope to get my hands on the Surface Studio since I require a bigger screen, but other than that no complains. I recommend this computer for those wanting to try something new other than apple products!

It doesn't matter how good the product is because the Microsoft Store customer support is horrible, possibly the worst of any online seller I have ever encountered. They even say in these reviews not to talk about their customer support. I am because it is an important consideration for a prospective purchaser. Don't do it.
