Anti-pattern.. ok.. Singleton is excellent. But also the ZEND Framwork has nice functions which come up with easy plugin installs to integrate it to WordPress.

I wrote some comment about possible change for backward compatibility here:
this could be also solution for changing WP code to support OOP.
What do you think?
No, it would be simpler to just rebuild WP and would make much more sense than always altering it to meet your needs or be a better framework, better means redesign at this point.
Like already stated there is still the zend plugin, but if it were already core.
Maybe you can do new projects/sites with oop, but no backwards compatibility with old projects.
If you want to do oop, you can start a new site. This would be beneficial for both sites.
And by the way, after hearing from the zend plugin i tested it and it works great!
+1 Would love to see this.
Yes, this would be great, and it can still be backwards compatible.
That whole "It can't be backwards compatible" is total BS. It's just an excuse not to do it.
+1 for the "feature"
@thebigskull: Indeed this would be the best way... but it would cost massive time to spend for it. I am not sure what happens meanwhile to the wordpress core.
Would be nice :)
