No brainer, have installed https://wordpress.org/plugins/disable-comments/ over 100 times. WP is now a CMS, comments should be easily disabled site wide.

Just turning of commenting in WordPress settings won't help as the basic commenting functionally of WordPress is always enabled and globally accessible.

I configured my web server so that only legitimate users can comment:

I didn't get a spam comment in years which makes me very happy.

I usually turn the box off, so spam is not a problem on my sites.

I would be great to have this feature. On some sites I actually delete the comments.php file just to be sure not to get any spam comments.

To disable comments, I think one of the best things to do is to install "no page comment" plugin..

I think it's a great tool becuase it can also trackback all the posts in your blogs. You can also choose to enable comments to any of your posts.

I think spams has been a big deal for a long time already because spammers are very smart and they always find a way to go through anti-spam tools.

I also think comments are one of the most important aspects in our blogs. Establishing a good relationship with your readers can be a big help in your blog. There are so many anti-spam plug-ins out there and they have different ways on fighting spams, but you really have to pay attention to what you really need.

Don't understand why this isn't a default function in Wordpress already. For so long comment spam has been a big issue.

I thinks there should be more options to turn off comments - e.g. ui complete control - e.g. turning off comments on pictures and attachments. Turning it off on pages and posts is not enough.

I use Disable Comments https://wordpress.org/plugins/disable-comments/ and am not troubled with spam comments.

Still it would be nice to remove comments completly as all my post show "0 comments" even though there are Facebook comments.

WordPress is a CMS nowadays, not just blogging software. I think comments should be a 'opt-in' feature.

I've seen too many websites where the comments feature had to be turned off in the first place, because the webmaster isn't monitoring the placed comments.
