Available on selected cars, CarPlay is a smarter, safer way to use your iPhone in the car. CarPlay takes the things you want to do with your iPhone while driving and puts them right there on your car’s built-in display. You can get directions, make calls, send and receive messages, and listen to music, all in a way that allows you to stay focused on the road. Just connect your iPhone and go.
CarPlay features Siri voice control and is specially designed for driving scenarios. CarPlay also works with your car’s controls — knobs, buttons, touchpad or touchscreen. And the apps themselves have been re-imagined for the car, so you can use them while your eyes and hands stay where they belong.
To activate Siri voice control, just press and hold the voice control button on the steering wheel.
If your CarPlay-equipped vehicle has a touchscreen, you can use it to control CarPlay.
CarPlay also works with the knobs, dials or buttons in the car. If it controls your screen, it controls CarPlay.
The power and simplicity of Apple Maps are now available on your dashboard. CarPlay can predict where you most likely want to go using addresses from your emails, text messages, contacts and calendars. You can search along your route for nearby restaurants, cafés and more. Or just use your voice: “Siri, where’s the closest service station?” Maps will even estimate how long the detour will take.
Make calls, return missed calls and listen to voicemail. Siri can help you do all of these things. All you have to do is ask.
Access all your content from iTunes, your Apple Music membership and additional audio apps using your car’s built-in controls. Search by artist, album or song. See what’s playing and what’s up next. Or just tell Siri to “Play my favourite Kanye track”. You can even access For You and Browse from Apple Music — with music hand-picked by experts — right there on your display.
CarPlay supports other apps on your iPhone — like Audiobooks and Podcasts. Apps developed by car manufacturers are also supported, so you can control more of your car’s features without ever leaving CarPlay.1
