You can use alternate cron - https://codex.wordpress.org/Editing_wp-config.php#Alternative_Cron - and schedule it manually via real cron, but yes. wp-cron is a poor mans' cron :(

I think it is necessary and priority to optimize wp-cron. By how it works, in some places, especially shared hosting, the consumption and recurrence of wp-cron is often abusive and destabilizing.

If you have several WordPress installed, also in VPS and dedicated installations, irregularities can be noticed before a traffic peak. Although this is not excessive, performance is always significantly affected by running wp-cron.

TIP: With a simple check you can change the frequency of wp-cron to 3hs, 6hs and even 1 time a day.

Although many functions of WordPress necessarily depend on cron, for most sites, especially the little updated and even static, it is unnecessary so much recurrence and query generation or wp-cron activity.

The consumption of resources, for example, when activating cron jobs from cpanel or using other tools, is remarkable. I've tried it on 10 sites of all kinds, size, consumption and different hosting, and the difference is measurable.
