This is by far the simplest & straight-forward 404 to 301 redirect plugin I found.

Before I installed this plugin, I tried another popular plugin called “Forty Four – 404 Plugin for WordPress.” While this “Forty Four” plugin was working properly, I didn’t like the fact that the plugin forced me to use their 404 page instead of my theme default 404 page. Also, I had to upgrade to pro in order to customize that 404 page I didn’t even want to use. Finally, the “Forty Four” plugin states it’s very light-weight, but it is 1.37MB!
On the other hand, this plugin “SEO 301 Meta” is truly light-weight which is only 104KB.
You should add a description stating this is a lightweight plugin since it’s an important feature for many wordpress users.
Overall, so happy that I found this plugin.

This plugin just works amazing. It does what it’s supposed to and it does it well.
Flexible and useful plugin for redirection
I am now able to create individual user friendly pages for each category, redirection the category slug to that page. It may sound cumbersome, but its actually very easy.
The plugin supports WordPress, Apache and Nginx redirects so some level of knowledge of your webhost and http redirects is required to configure this plugin. Its not necessarily for the novice user – keep that in mind when reading the reviews.
