You actually have a 3rd option with a preview already.

If you click Details under a plugin name, you will be given a new view where you can see many types of details such as (if made available by the author); A more extensive description, screenshot, change logs to see what they have changed recently, FAQ's, and in many cases even video clips showing how they work and what they do.

A little sample would make the process much faster.

When I typed in, 'Contact', 95 plugins came up. At least with a little visual, we could pick more quickly.

Right now, we have two choices. Go by the star rating and/or read all the descriptions.
