How did you get it to work? There are many posts from users that can't get it to post at all from email.

I agree. The current e-mail posting functionality could be much more improved.

- post a draft from any registered e-mail account
- specify title, categories, tags in the subject line
- allow both plain text and html code in the content
- respond with an HTML view or link to the preview of what the page would look like
- allow to publish the draft from the e-mail
- many more features one could think of

This has to be one of the highest priorities. The ability to post via email opens up opportunities with posting from mobile phones and so many more ideas when you're on the run and already logged into your gmail account or similar. PLEASE add the ability to post via email with pictures so that similar to Windows Live Writer an automatic creation of thumbnails and fullsize shots are created.

The other method, one that I'm setting up now, is to require authentication (SMTP AUTH) on all email to that account, at the mail server. Of course, I run my own mail servers.

Good idea, the fact that every mail to the address is posted has kept me from using the post by mail function so far...

An other improvement to the post by mail feature would be masking (type="password" instead of type="text") of the mail account password on the options page ;)

Currently, to post by email, you send an email with the post in the body and the subject is the entry' title. The problem with post-by-email is that every email sent to the specified address is posted, even if it were spam. Why not set an email posting password. The first line of the email body would be your password, and it would only be posted if that password were the first line, otherwise it would be either ignored or entered in the "draft" state.

So, the email could be
Subject: Test post
Body:
mypassword123
the body of the blog posting....
