I've released a beta version of my plugin.

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/picasa-album-uploader/

More planned feature wise before 1.0. This release provides support for uploading directly from Picasa into WordPress media. Future progress updates will be provided through the plugin page above.

I've been working on a version of this that does not require placing files in the wp-admin folder. I didn't like the idea that updating WP would wipe out the plugin. I'm getting close to making the initial version of it available for download. It will be called picasa-album-uploader so look for it soon.

Brilliant cylang - many thanks. Unfortunately I can't get it to work at the moment (Picasa 3 and Wordpress 2.7.1) I have posted in your comments.

Still waiting on this one! This would be an amazing button for Picasa, especially for those users that post more image content than they do text in a post.
Google already allows this to be accomplished from YouTube with videos (publish to WordPress), so it MUST be possible!

Oh how I miss this functionality in Picasa... It works for Facebook and perhaps a dozen other similar sites, why not my own? Too bad I can't really script such a plugin myself...

Picasa resizes images before uploading which is great as it prevents people trying to upload those 3mb images straight from their camera. However by default it only sends images to Picasa web albums or Blogger.

However! Google have released an API to do this and also create a button in the Picasa desktop application. See:

http://code.google.com/apis/picasa/docs/web_uploader.html

Unfortunately it's beyond me. Perhaps someone could create such a thing for WP?

There's a module for 'Gallery' that someone's written which might be a good php starting point for someone:
