It is beyond comprehension to me that for more than 5 years, people have been trying to get the simplest feature added to the plugins portion of the ADMIN UI. But really, this should apply to every piece of content displayable in list, table, or grid format.
To display the plugins, for example, you have to have access to specific attributes about each plugin, so simply add a series of buttons that let you sort by or filter by any attribute. This should apply to every piece of WordPress content possible.
If you have a list of content, it should be sortable by the available properties. If you have a table, same thing. If you have columns, make the headers perform the sort for you. If you have a grid, float buttons in the grid header to select which attributes are most important to you and sort by importance.
Why hasn't this been addressed by the developers at WordPress Core?
