The list of ideas considered pluggable is huge.

And indeed, I apply the same reasoning as Greenshady: if I can't see the majority of WP users needing this functionality, it is problably plugin territory.

I am a heavy user of WP-as-CMS myself, so I see why this would come in handy for some setups. But it can already be done with plugins presently, and this is basically due to the roles/capabilities system that is already there in the core.

The plugin API was built to allow plugins to plug into WordPress for the very reason you posted. WordPress should present a flexible yet basic package. Plugins should extend this package with additional features like the one you requested.

Yes, you could. I'd probably consider about 90% of the ideas around here plugin territory.

But here I would strongly disagree - WordPress is more CMS than blogging platform (not only) for me. And when you are building a site, it's very irresponsible to rely on 3rd party plugins in structure-important features like role management.

Significant terms are "warranty", "support" and "safety"...

For example I have this structure of pages:

- Home
- Articles
- - Reviews
- - - Reviews subcategory
- Info

And I would like to assign special role ("local editor") to some user, which would allow him to edit Reviews page and its descendants (and also create new ones or delete old ones and same for their descendants)...

OR

Reverse approach - assign local editors to Review page.

Im not sure, which one is better, but that's not important now.

So, thanks for hearing at least and hope someday it will be done.
