I am in the process of creating a plugin that would allow you to upload a zip file of a plugin or a theme. If you give me a few days to get the final thing working, I will let you know. If you would like to be beta, or a little more than beta, testers I would appreciate the help.

You can email me at wordpress@kleindesign.us if you would like to test it on your server. Any and all comments would be appreciated. If you e-mail me in the next few days I can get you the plugin as soon as I am ready to release it.

Well I didn't think of completely elaborating my idea... Maybe it could be a plugin which shows me the thumbnails of themes.wordpress.net which I then may select and click on "Download this theme to my themes folder"... or something like that ;-)

I'm not sure how well the "Find new themes" link would work. It might work well if they ever updated the WordPress themes repository. I think most of the best theme designers never really used that though.

I think at this point, a lot of theme authors are set in their ways, and it would be hard to get many of them to move over to a new system. So, most of the themes in a repository system would be mediocre at best.

Many themes have online demos that you can view before uploading the theme.

It could be a nice feature for beginners.

katpatuka
I'm not ready to rate this idea because you haven't completely elaborated on your idea or said whether it's for core integration or a plugin.

From within the themes area, click on something that says, "find new themes" that takes you to the theme pages. Cruise around till you find on you like, then click and it's uploaded, installed. As it is, I have to download a bunch, unzip, upload, then go into theme area and click on them.

Less than 1 out of 10 ever get unzipped and uploaded - I just never remember which was which. I don't have all day to play with themes - and I have an even shorter attention span.

I'd like a plugin that uploads the zip file, unzips and installs it - from the admin area.

How hard is it to add themes? You simply upload it and activate it. It's a two-step process that takes, literally, less than one minute.

Could you elaborate on what would be easier?
