Equality

Everyone deserves to be treated fairly, regardless of their age, disability, gender, gender identity/reassignment, race, religion or sexual orientation.

There is no place in Scotland for prejudice or discrimination.

Actions

We are:

• providing funding to organisations to help promote equality
• considering equality in our everyday work through mainstreaming
• producing a race equality framework
• working to make sure women and men receive equal treatment and are not discriminated against because of their gender

We are also working to make sure the following groups are treated fairly, and can access services that meet their needs:

• LGBTI communities
• faith and belief organisations
• disabled people
• Gypsy/Travellers

Background

We take equality into account in all that we do, as both a policy maker and an employer.

The Equality Outcomes and Mainstreaming Report 2015 gives an update on our progress.

Bills and legislation

The Equality Act 2010 brought together existing equality legislation.

It focuses on people with the following protected characteristics: age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy or maternity, race, sex, sexual orientation and religion and belief.
