Community sentences
If you're given a community sentence it means you'll carry out your sentence in the community instead of going to prison.
Community sentences can also be known as 'community service' or 'community orders'.
The court can order you to:
- do unpaid work
- not go outside your home between certain hours of the day or night
- get treatment if your offence was linked to drink or drugs
If you don't complete a community sentence you might get into further trouble with a court. This includes being sent to prison, or having your community sentence increased.
