Scotland in late October 2018

We will be starting from Inverness, driving south and making our way down towards north-western England, taking perhaps 4-5 days. We are unsure of a route and open attractions that would interest us (more research yet to be done for that), so having some flexibility for late decisions would be good. So, in late October are we likely to run into difficulty finding hotel or similar style accommodation along the way if we have not made any prior reservations?
