Doors Open Days

Doors Open Days take place all around Scotland throughout September 2016. It's a great opportunity to get free and guided access to rooms, buildings and venues that are not usually open to the general public or have a special architectural significance. In previous years, I've had some very interesting experiences around Edinburgh having a nosey at hidden gems and curious buildings with amazing histories. Here are a few of the memorable places I would definitely recommend visiting in Edinburgh if you get a chance:

St Bernard's Well
Drumsheugh Swimming Club Baths
Dovecot Studios (Infirmary Street Baths)
Observatory Building, Calton Hill
Mansefield Traquair Centre
Magdalen Chapel

This is a great opportunity to view, ask questions and find out the stories behind some wonderful buildings around Scotland as the Year of Innovation, Architecture and Design draws to a close.

    It's that time of year again when Scotland opens its doors to the public, giving us all free access to buildings of design, heritage, cultural and historical interest. A selection of buildings, often not usually open to the public, will host weekends of events and tours which reveal hidden histories and unusual design features.

    This weekend, on 9th September, Midlothian opens up its fascinating structures and unique venues to locals and visitors alike in a programme of tours and events. Here are some included venues:
    Arniston House
    Dalkeith Corn Exchange
    The Lost Garden of Penicuik
    National Mining Museum
