Detour off the A82

In two weeks, we'll be heading for Scotland! I'm making some final preparations and had a question. We'll be driving from Glasgow to Isle of Skye using the A82. I have been thinking about detouring off onto the A19 at Tarbet to see Inveraray and then on to Kilchurn, linking back up to Tyndrum via A85. If we do this, will we be missing out on a lot between Tarbet and Tyndrum? Would it be better to drive over to Inveraray and then backtrack to Tarbet, skipping Kilchurn? Or should we just skip both and stick to the A82? I would love to hear your opinions on this! I've been researching but am still not totally convinced either way. Thank you!

    Either way, you will enjoy your drive, @Kcioh. If you like castles, however, Inveraray Castle is very photogenic, as is the town itself, and Loch Fyne looks pretty amazing from the town, too. At Tarbet, you can go for a cruise on Loch Lomond.

    Wow, Tooma! It looks so incredible! I am beyond excited! I had pretty much decided to do the detour, and your post just confirmed my feelings. We’re hoping for great weather but plan to enjoy it ALL, no matter what! Thank you so much for your response!

    One thing about the UK, and Scotland in particular - you are guaranteed weather, and on the west coast, it is often - wet, lol. I read someone who lived in Iceland talk about weather, some years ago, and he said, "There is no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothes.", certainly one way to think about it, and it does appeal to me. Have a fab trip. :)
