Highlands in May

My husband and I live in the US (Tennessee) and are planning a trip to the Highlands in May. Our current plan is to drive from Inverness to Skye, take a ferry to Outer Hebrides and then return back to Inverness. 

Anyone have any advice? Particularly in the area of what clothing, etc to bring? I know boots are probably a must!

    Hi @eredding, thats right, bring some boots, jacket, fleece to start with. Lots of thin layers and don't worry about nice clothes for going out. Scotland is a very relaxed kind of place when it comes to dining. Depending on the weather you may want to bring something against the Midges. There are lots of creams etc but Smidge is good and probably the best product is Avon skin so soft.

    Bring a good camera to capture the memories of a lifetime :smile: Bring beach slippers for the Outer Hebrides beach combing sessions and a rain + wind jacket for if the weather turns. Lots of extra socks if you plan on hiking (especially in Skye where some areas are very boggy). Make sure your book your car onto the ferry in advance for the Skye - Outer Hebrides and back legs. Do not miss the Glenbrittle area in Skye.

    Another little tip is to book your accommodation for Skye asap as the Island is very popular and fills up quickly. You can search for  accommodation in Skye on our VisitScotland website.  :)
