Travelling with Teenagers - ideas of things to do in central Scotland

Realise that this covers ages from 13 - 19, where interests are many and varied, however it's always good to have some ideas of things to do when travelling with teenagers. Are there are any particular activities or places to visit you can recommend from your own experiences? Particularly interested in the central belt of Scotland, or within 1 hour's drive from Edinburgh.

    In Edinburgh itself, Edinburgh Dungeon appeals to teenagers as it's a bit scary and sinister but lots of fun and has a couple of rides. If they prefer an outdoor adventure, Go Ape in Glentress near Peebles is a great place. There's also mountain biking there if your teenagers are the sporty type! The Museum of Flight at East Fortune (East Lothian) will appeal more to boys and it hosts one of the few Concorde aircraft on display in the country. It really depends what your kids are into so check out the VisitScotland website for lots of ideas of what to see and do in all areas of Scotland.

    The Glasgow Science centre may be a good option. Have a wee look at their website, lots of fun things to do for kids (including teenagers!) of all ages!

    You may like to consider visiting the Falkirk wheel a unique rotating boat lift linking the Forthand Clyde and Union Canals . This is an amazing allround experience and a great day out for the family . You can also visit the nearby magnificent Kelpies ! Maybe you  prefer History then why not visit The Bannockburn Experience , this relives the battle , thanks to modern 3D technology! And you can also play the battle game, .Teenagers will really enjoy this .

    Agree that Edinburgh Dungeon is usually a winner with teens... or any of the ghost walks (there is also a ghost bus tour).  There are Hard Rock Cafes in both Edinburgh and Glasgow which might appeal too!

    East Links Family Park (Dunbar East Lothian, 30 drive or 20 minute train from Edinburgh) is a great place for Teenagers and Adults too!! Or a visit to North Berwick (East Lothian), a beautiful seaside town with boat trips round the Bass Rock, gorgeous beaches, Seabird Centre, boutique shops and the most delicious ice cream, again is fun for all the family  :)

    If you like a bit of outdoor adventure try Foxlake Adventures, just outside Dunbar.  There's lots of activities to choose from including wakeboarding, segways, disc golf and Foxfalls High Ropes Course.  Their website is www.foxlake.co.uk

    Monikie Country Park, just outside Dundee, (ok not strictly central belt) has lots of watersports (kayaking, mirror dinghys, windsurfing) on offer which you can rent by the hour, wetsuits & lifejackets supplied.  It is very safe for beginners, I took my children there from about age 9 and there is a ranger on hand at all times.  There is also a high ropes climbing area which would be great for teenagers.

    There is also an ice cream trail across Scotland.  Although you might not manage to try every scoop, it might help you persuade teenagers to be enthusiastic about going to certain places if they knew there was a cone at the end of it  :)
