Business, Enterprise and Energy - ScotStat

ScotStat is a network for users and providers of Scottish Official statistics. It aims to improve communication amongst those interested in particular statistics and facilitate the setting up of working groups on specific statistical issues. This page contains information on stakeholder engagement and activity conducted in relation to the Businesses topic.

The ScotStat Committee responsible for matters relating to Business, Enterprise and Energy is the Scottish Economic Statistics Consultation Group (SESCG).

ScotStat Committees/Groups

The Scottish Government consults users and providers of the statistics which relate to Businesses via the Scottish Economic Statistics Consultation Group (SESCG).

The Group covers the following National Statistics Themes (or parts of themes):

  • Commerce, Energy and Industry
  • Labour Market
  • Tourism
  • Local Government Finance

Businesses - Consultation - UK-wide User Groups and User Communities

There are UK-wide statistical user groups and communities within the business statistics theme as set out below. If you would like more information on these groups, please contact us by telephone on 0300 244 6802 or by e-mail at industrystatistics@scotland.gsi.gov.uk.

Annual Business Survey (ABS) User Group

Scottish Annual Business Statistics is based on data from the Annual Business Survey (ABS) conducted by the Office for National Statistics.  The ABS User Group meets a minimum of two times a year around March and September.  Minutes and papers from previous ABS user group meetings are available on the ONS website at:

Business Population and Demographics Statistics (BPDS) User Group

The Business Population and Demographics Statistics (BPDS) User Group has been created as a forum where users and producers can meet to share information and discuss relevant issues regarding the main National Statistics Business Population and Demographics Statistics publications. Business Statistics Community on StatsUserNet

StatsUserNet is the Royal Statistical Society’s interactive site for users of official statistics. It enables you to join on-line communities for your areas of interest.  Register  by clicking ‘Log in or sign up’ at http://www.statsusernet.org.uk/Home/, locate the ‘Business Statistics’ community through the ‘Communities’ menu, and click join.

United Kingdom Statistics Authority Assessments 

In 2012, Business and Research & Development Statistics produced by the Scottish Government were assessed by the UK Statistics Authority for compliance against the Code of Practice for Official Statistics.  Details of the assessment are available at:
