  • Healthy Attendance? The Impact of Cultural Engagement and Sports Participation on Health and Satisfaction with Life in Scotland
    August 2013
    Data from the Scottish Household Survey 2011 has been used to statistically explore the relationship between taking part in cultural and sporting activities, attending cultural places and key quality of life measures in Scotland. This report presents the findings of the analysis of this relationship.
  • An Examination of the Evidence on Sectarianism in Scotland
    June 2013
    This is a review of existing research and survey data on sectarianism in Scotland, which incorporates a range of outcomes by religion from the SHS.
  • Local Incomes and Poverty in Scotland
    March 2013
    This work stemmed from the attempt to enhance the Scottish Household Survey (SHS) income data by imputing values for other adult household members drawing on FRS data. Comparisons between the results of this  exercise and the existing Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation (SIMD) income domain, which is based on administrative benefit and tax credit data, showed significant apparent discrepancies in the geography of poverty from these two different approaches. It was clear that further investigation and explanation of the differences between these differently based measures of poverty, including geographical differences, would be needed.
  • Potential impacts of an online delivery of Universal Credit (Welfare Reform Analysis listings)
    December 2012
    Uses data from the SHS on internet take-up, devices used to access the internet, and barriers to internet use. Most of the analysis is for working-age adults or households in which at least one adult is working age.

  • Exploring Dimensions of Social Capital in Scotland
    October 2012
    The purpose of this report is to explore whether different groups in society experience different levels of social capital. Does where you live affect the strength of your social networks? Are older or younger people more likely to benefit from having strong links with other people in their community? And are people who are already socio-economically disadvantaged further disadvantaged by having lower levels of social capital and therefore fewer resources to draw upon?

  • Caring in Scotland: Analysis of Existing Data Sources on Unpaid Carers in Scotland
    July 2010
    The report outlines some of the main sources of statistical information on carers in Scotland. These include the 2001 Census and the Scottish Household Survey 2007/2008, as well as other official data. It is intended that the report will be used by both the Scottish Government and voluntary and statutory sector stakeholders working with carers in Scotland, to provide a better shared understanding of carers.
