The main release is the SHS Annual Report, referred to as Scotland's People, is released in autumn of the year following the end of the relevant reference period. For example, data from 2015 was published in September 2016.
Up to and including 2011, the survey was designed so that the interviews from each quarter would provide results which are representative of Scotland as a whole whilst statistically reliable results are available for larger local authorities on an annual basis and for all Local Authorities, regardless of size, every two years. The two-year sweeps completed are 1999/2000, 2001/2002, 2003/2004, 2005/2006, 2007/2008 and 2009/2010. A single year release schedule was used for results from the 2011 survey.
From 2012 onwards, the survey was substantially redesigned and incorporated the separate Scottish House Condition Survey. The new survey is based on a core and modular design which can produce results at different levels over different timescales. For example, national level results could be produced either annually (each year) or biennially (every second year) whilst a similar approach is followed for local authority results.
