National Qualifications
Minister calls for consensus to back efforts of teachers and pupils.
Minister for Learning Alasdair Allan has urged everyone with an interest in education to back the efforts of Scottish pupils and teachers in the new National Qualifications.
Speaking at the Scottish Parliament’s Education and Culture Committee, Dr Allan said the Scottish Government and partner bodies are providing an unprecedented level of additional support and stressed the importance of continuing to support the hard work of teachers, pupils and parents across the country.
Dr Allan said
“I think across the country we all share the vision that Scotland should be the best place to go to school. We want each child to enjoy an education that encourages them to be the most successful they can be, and provides them with a full passport to the future. We need clear leadership for that – from politicians, from local authorities, from schools and from each individual teacher working in the classroom
“With Curriculum for Excellence, we are improving Scottish education and making sure our young people have the skills and knowledge they need. These improvements have been built on a broad consensus over a ten year period – a consensus that is as important now as it has ever been.
“I know that teachers and pupils, with the support of their parents, are working very hard to maximise the opportunities presented by the new approach to learning. Our teachers are second to none, and they want to do the best they possibly can for our young people That is why we have listened, and provided support where teachers and parents have asked for it, including a further package of £5 million announced only last week.
“We will continue to listen to feedback and to work with teachers, pupils and parents in delivering lasting improvements that will benefit our young people and economy.”
Alasdair Allan announced the latest package of support on February 21. Further details are available from http://news.scotland.gov.uk/News/More-support-for-teachers-and-schools-98a.aspx
