Malawi Elections

Commenting on Malawi's presidential election, Humza Yousaf, the Scottish Government’s Minister for External Affairs and International Development, said:

"We congratulate His Excellency Professor Peter Mutharika on his election as the fifth President of the Republic of Malawi, in this Malawi's 50th year of independence, and following a keenly-contested election from which the people of Malawi can take considerable credit.

"The peoples of Scotland and Malawi have had historical connections for over 150 years and that relationship has been deepened and strengthened since the signing of our Cooperation Agreement in 2005. We look forward to working with President Mutharika and his Government to the mutual benefit of our two countries."
