Record uni acceptances
Three per cent increase in Scots securing a place at university.
24,800 Scots-domiciled students have already secured a place at university for 2015, a record high for Scottish exam results day.
The figures, published this morning by UCAS, represent an increase of 810 (3 per cent) on last year and follow a record 156,000 Higher passes this year.
Cabinet Secretary for Education Angela Constance said:
“This is very positive news indeed for thousands of Scottish students and reflects very well on Scottish education. Our curriculum and assessment system is designed to get the very best out of students.
“Record university acceptances follow today’s increase in Higher awards and with a record percentage of school leavers in employment, education or training published earlier this year. After a period of change, moving towards full implementation of the new qualifications, all the trends are shifting in the right direction.
“Those taking up a place at university can be incredibly proud of their achievements and can now look forward to a new challenge.
“Help is at hand for students who have not done as well as they’d had hoped and anyone who needs advice on what to do if they haven’t got what they expected today should phone the Skills Development Scotland exams results helpline on 0808 100 8000.
“Clearing is now also open for Scots-domiciled students through UCAS with hundreds of places available at a number of Scottish institutions for those who didn’t get the results they had hoped for.”
