A&E performance

Monthly and weekly A&E performance figures published.

Patient waiting times in core A&E sites remained above 95 per cent during the week ending July 26.

Monthly figures for June, also published today, show a rise in the percentage of patients seen within four hours to 94.3 per cent. This includes both core, consultant led emergency departments and minor injury units.

This is up from 93.5 per cent in May 2015, and slightly above performance in June 2014 when 94.0 per cent of patients were seen within four hours.

Core performance during the month of June 2015 was 93.4 per cent up from 92.6 per cent during May 2015.

During the week ending July 26, 95.1 per cent of patients were seen within four hours at core A&E sites.

Health Secretary Shona Robison said:

“Today’s figures again show performance in A&E is stabilising, with weekly performance in July reaching over 95 per cent for the third week in a row. Monthly figures for June are an improvement on the previous month as well as the same month last year.

“While we expect performance to fluctuate week to week, I am confident that boards across Scotland are working extremely hard to ensure this level of performance is maintained.

"During the week ending July 26, 11 out of 14 health boards saw 95 per cent of patients within four hours at core A&E sites . This is testament to the hard working staff who continue to ensure patients receive the quality of care they deserve.

“Our focus now is to maintain this improving trend in performance going forward – particularly as we head towards winter. We are continuing to work closely with health boards throughout Scotland to ensure they are progressing the six essential actions which aim to minimise long waits in A&E and assessment units by improving patient flow throughout all areas of the hospital and community.

“We want to see long-term, sustainable change put in place in order to maintain this high level of performance during peaks and troughs of demand.”
