Framework for Scottish Official Statistics - Introduction

<<Previous | Contents | Next>>

1. This Framework for Scottish Official Statistics is intended to provide a clear statement of how the statistics produced by, or for, the Scottish Government are managed and how professional independence of the production and publication of those statistics is upheld in line with National Statistics and international standards.

2. It covers the arrangements for statistics within Scottish Government directorates and in the other bodies producing official statistics, principally the General Register Office for Scotland (GROS) and the Information Services Division of the National Health Service Scotland (ISD).

3. The Framework is likely to be amended as new National Statistics arrangements are put in place by the independent UK Statistics Authority which operates across the four UK administrations. The Scottish Government is also reviewing the relationship between centraI government and the rest of the public sector in terms of statistics production and publication, and this too will have an impact on the Framework.

4. The Framework is in any event intended to be a document that is reviewed and updated as and when necessary.
