Quiet local woodland
This quiet local woodland on the edge of the town is a great place for a stroll, a picnic or walk with the dog beside the Calder Water.
There’s just over a mile (2km) of gravel paths through the wood, which are ideal for walking, cycling or running – but be prepared for some long moderate slopes. There is also an 800 metre easy route which has been added to the top of the site, offering a firm, flat route for those short of time or looking for something less strenuous. You can also extend the route here along the river by following the North Calder Heritage Trail, a 10 mile (16km) walking and cycling route between Summerlee Museum of Scottish Industrial Life in Coatbridge in Coatbridge and Hillend Reservoir at Caldercruix.

There is a small car park on site, with room for three cars, if this area is full there is plenty of on-street parking nearby.
