Daydream in Denlethen

You’ll find benches by the main path through this popular local wood: they’re just made for sitting and watching the world go by, or having a chat with a friend. Clearings cut through the trees offer views of the surrounding countryside, and there’s an old curling pond next to the picnic area on the north-east edge of the wood.

Wildlife likes this place too: there are roe deer among the trees, and damselflies by the pond.

There are no waymarked trails in Denlethen Forest, but the main forest track is easy to follow and makes a circuit of about 1.8 miles / 3 km: allow ¾ hour. Small paths between the trees offer lots of options for making your own route.

Paths in Denlethen Forest are all flat. They range from wide, firm track to uneven grassy paths with tree roots in places.

How to get here

About 200 yards along the A937 from the southern end of Laurencekirk village, turn right onto an unclassified road. Immediately after crossing the railway line turn right along a dirt road. Continue along here to the car park.
