We have 2 weeks holiday in late June and plan to travel some of Scotland north of Glasgow after picking up my son and partner who are at uni. We love whisky, walking and visiting historic houses but have no idea where we can base ourselves (maybe 2 x 1 week bases) to maximise our trip. Suggestions welcome.

Whisky, Castles and Food a speciality.

Either Oban or Fort William would be a good option as a base further north with lots to explore in the area. Oban also has a Cal Mac ferry terminal, thus it is easy to hop over to the Inner Hebridean Isles, for example Mull. I would advise if you are considering Skye as a base to book your accommodation now as it gets very in the summer and accommodation fills up quickly.
Have a great holiday!
