I'm from the US. Traveling to Scotland next week., my second visit. we are flying into Edinburgh then driving to Skye. Looking for recommendations for places to stop along the way.....On this trip also heading to Golspie, Elgin and Sterling....any suggestions of must see, must do appreciated. Also is there a rail from Sterling into Govan section of Glasgow? Thanks all and can't wait

    Hey @tapfaerie, before we can give you suggestions, it would be good to know what you've already seen during your 1st visit (so we can avoid repeating them). There is a train from Stirling to Glasgow Queen Street and Govan is a short bus ride away.

    Wow....1st visit was about 5 years ago...we did Edinburgh then drove to ft William stopping at sound castle along the way, glenfinnin Mai lag, loch mess, Inverness, Culloden, dunrobin castle, which we plan to do again, dunno tar castle, cawdor castle, pitlochory, then drove to Jedburgh to ferniehurst castle and the abbey.   Thats a lot of what we did, may be missing some.  It was a lot to say the least but the country was so beautiful.

    Hey @tapfaerie Glencoe is the obvious recommendation and so is the Eilean Donan castle. Based on your previous travels, I would highly recommend exploring Skye the best you can and if you can squeeze out a day, visit the Isle of Harris. Be sure to make rainy day alternative arrangements on Skye (Talisker, Dunvegan castle, etc make good dry day activities).

    Hi @tapfaerie If you are coming next week, be sure you have secured accommodation for Skye before you arrive there - it is a very popular location for visitors in August.

    You can also get the Glasgow Subway train to Govan station in ten minutes. Catch it from Buchanan Street subway station which is just outside Queen Street railway station.

    We literally just got back on 8/11 from doing the same.  

    We drove Edinburgh to Stirling (stopping at Kelpies, Wallace Monument) and spent overnight in lovely Glencoe at Clachaig Inn.  The next morning we drove to ferry via Glenfinnan. 

    We took the Skye Bridge back, stopping at Eilean Donan.

    Skye was gorgeous but very, very crowded.

    Think about stopping at Ben Cruachan. Inside the mountain there is a Hydro Electric plant that you can visit, very impressive.
