Isle of Arran, Skye and Orkneys in 12 days
After doing the nc500 in 5 days on my own, I'm dying to get back to Scotland! I'm planning on going for 12 days this time in July...
- Flying into Glasgow early morning
- First night in Isle of Arran
- Second night near Glencoe / Glenfinnan
- 4 or 5 nights in Skye? ( all accommodation seems to be booked up already so planning on camping? Is this safe to do alone? Are there plenty of showering facilities available? )
- 4 or 5 nights in the Orkneys... can I take my car on all the Ferrys? Not sure which islands to visit?
- Flying out of Inverness
also will be using Arnold Clarke car rental as I found they were great last time and the cars are litterally brand new only 3000 miles on them
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

You can take your car on all the ferries - Caledonian MacBrayne on the West Cost and Northlink Ferries for Orkney are the main operators. Please visit our webpage on Orkney where you will find lots of information. I have never been myself unfortunately - one day definitely!! Have a fantastic holiday and please share your experience on the community!
On Skye, the Sligachan campsite does not take bookings and is very well located but doesnt have the best facilities. I've heard only great things about the Glenbrittle campsite, try to see if they take bookings and spend your Skye days in that area.
Finally, I definitely recommend visiting the Isle of Hoy on Orkney even if it is just to see the Old Man of Hoy.
Best of Scotland in 1 week itinerary (fully by public transport)
My Scotland travels (includes Edinburgh, Skye, Harris, Mull, Arran, Orkney, Loch Lomond, Islay, Oban, Speyside fest)
I was then hoping I could pay for showering facilities at a campsite now and again?
I agree with @Horizons about spending more than one night on the Isle of Arran. So many beautiful walks and hikes! I'm walking the Arran Coastal Way in June (65 miles) and really excited to see more of the island on foot.
I have a few blog posts on the walks I've done over the years. Have a wee look and see if it persuades you to stay longer
Have a fun holiday whatever you decide!

We crossed to Orkney recently with Pentland Ferries from Gills Bay and took the car. They were really good. It's a short crossing of around an hour and it arrives at St Margaret's Hope on South Ronaldsay. I'd suggest staying on Mainland, South Ronaldsay or Burray. They're all connected by causeway so are easy to navigate around. I've written a blog trilogy on Orkney which you may also find useful.
Check out The Cowshed on Skye. It's at Uig near the Faerie Glen. They have great facilities and comfortable glamping pods. Like camping but more luxurious. If they have availability I'd suggest there.
You'll have a wonderful time - the Scottish islands are amazing.
