Driving from Edinburgh to Inverness via Glen Coe

My husband, his mother and myself will be driving from Edinburgh to Inverness via Glencoe.  We need to make it to Inverness no later than 5:30 pm.  We want to make a few stops along the way but I don't know if we are trying to do too much.   Our first planned stop is Stirling Castle and possibly the Wallace monument.   I would also like to make a stop at Doune Castle.    I do imagine we will be making a few stops through Glencoe for photo opps.   Then we would like to stop at Urquhart Castle and one of the Nessie museums.    As a note, this is the first time my husband will be driving in GB (we are from the US), so we need to take that into consideration as well.    We will also need to stop for lunch and bio-breaks.  Are we planning too much or is this doable?   Thanks!

Google is saying that will be around about 200 miles and will take you 5 hours without stops so if you leave early enough and are at Stirling Castle for it opening at 9:30am then I suppose you could do it. However, your husband is driving on the 'wrong' side of the road and will probably be a wee bit slower than average so I think you might feel rushed to get to Inverness for 5:30pm and will have to restrict your stops. If you can I would break the journey with an overnight stay around Glencoe...it's just too magnificent to be rushed through.

Breaking up your journey would seem a good idea as I get the feeling you want to see things on the way. Just visiting Stirling Castle, the Wallace Monument and Doune Castle could take you at least half a day. Then you will be going through the Trossachs National Park and it's worth spending a bit of time there too (Loch Lomond, Loch Katrine, Loch Venechar, Loch Lubnaig, Killin and the Falls of Dochart...) as it's the gateway to the Highlands.

I'm just back in from a 2 day tour' started Edinburgh through to Loch Lomond, up to inverary, glencoe, glenfinnan and stopped in at Loch lochy ( just north of fort William) we left Edinburgh about 0945 and got to the hotel about 1915.  It was a fairly full on day and didn't feel like a relaxed schedule at all!

The reality is, you could do it.. if you left to make sure you'd be at Stirling castle for 0930.
1 hour there, leave at 10:30 you now have 7 hours left and 4 hours driving to go... so 3 hours worth of stops 1 at Wallace monument and 1 at doune castle... you're now low on stop time!!! The roads, depending when you're coming, can be frustratingly congested with busses, caravans and other slow moving vehicles. Overtaking can be difficult, especially in an underpowered hire car.
