scotland in the spring

i was in scotland a few years ago at the beginning of october- it was amazing, not super crowded and the weather was great!! however, i want to plan a trip next year for the spring, what would be a good time- when does the weather start to be nice and when is it almost tourist season, but not quite (although i do want to go when everything is open). thank you!!
