Is it worth the extra time
We are tourists who will be driving from Durness to Ulapool.
However we are considering a detour from the most direct route.
We would
like your opinion if the extra 90 minutes is worth the effort.
We would start in Durness heading south taking the most direct route to Ulapool.
Then leave the direct route near Unapool, then go through Nedd to Stoer to Little Assynt then to Ardvek Castle, then resume
the normal route.
Is this detour worth the extra time we'd spend driving it.
Please comment on what we might see on this detour.
Thank you
so very much. Michael

Our day begins in Inverness. We're driving to Durness and plan on having lunch there, so we're headed south around 2:00 or 3:00 pm.
Thank you for your question.

I love that whole area and Assynt in particular. Ardvreck is one of my favourite castles. Not much of it survives but it's still impressive.
I would recommend (if you have time) to visit the Bone Caves, near Inchnadamph, 1.5 miles South of Ardvreck Castle. They are a short walk (just over 2 miles) up a beautiful limestone valley and contain relics of of Eurasian lynx, brown bear, Arctic fox, reindeer dated to as long ago as 47,000 BP!
Have a wonderful trip!
