Last minute trip end of May
My daughter and I are surprising my husband with a trip to Scotland from 5/22-5/28. We would really like to rent a small cottage in a quintessential Scottish village (i.e. pub, farms, etc.) I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed trying to figure out where to go. My husband is a Grant so he's interested in seeing the homeland! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

You're a bit spoiled for choice in Scotland so I'm sure you'll find something that fits your brief quite easily!
One to consider would be making your way to Dumfries and Galloway - you could always stay in New Abbey which has one pub, a corn mill, a ruined abbey and is absolutely delightful.
I'm sure others will join in with their recommendations too, like I say, spoiled for choice

The flip side is that the village has very few homes. Google suggests there are a few good looking cottages in the village : http://www.visitcraigellachie.com/bridge-view.html You can also try VisitScotland & Airbnb to find cottages in the area.
Best of Scotland in 1 week itinerary (fully by public transport)
My Scotland travels (includes Edinburgh, Skye, Harris, Mull, Arran, Orkney, Loch Lomond, Islay, Oban, Speyside fest)
Marykirk has a lovely wee hotel / pub, it is quite rural but only a 40 minute drive to the UNESCO city of design Dundee, and the bustling Aberdeen. You could easily arrive into Aberdeen airport...
A local distillery Glencadam offer brilliant personal 'manager' tours and the other one in Fettercairn offer excellent tours too.
The amazing Glamis and Dunnottar castles are within easy reach and there's loads more to fill your week!!
It's a different option, maybe to what you were looking for...

You'll also find Grants concentrated around the Inverness area. The impressive tower of Urquhart Castle on Loch Ness is called the Grant Tower as the castle was once a Grant stronghold. You'll find lovely quaint little farm villages nearby in Glen Affric. I think Tomich would wow you. Tomich Holidays have self-catering courtyard cottages on a beautiful Victorian farm. They have a games room and swimming pool and the Tomich Hotel nearby has a real village pub feel. It serves excellent home cooked meals.
When we were in the battle-room at Culloden Battlefield a few years ago the names of the dead were on a wall and we spotted my husband's name - Alexander Grant. Quite unnerving as he's from the region. Clan Grant fought on both sides at Culloden so it's also worth visiting.
