[email protected]_Ann.  If you can provide a little information on what sort of things you would like to know we can assist you further. :)   What part of Scotland are you intending to visit?

A good starting point for you also would be to visit our VisitScotland website where you can search for accommodation (if you require it), places and attractions to visit and much more!
  • Gosh... where to start. What is the weather in late September / early October, so we know what type of cloths to pack? We intend on starting in Edinburgh and traveling up to Kirkwall - What are "must see's" on the way up? On our way back we will come down through Ullapool with a visit to Dumbarton where my husbands ancestry is traced back to... flying out of Glasgow. We want to see and do as much as possible with the time that we have but not just tourist attractions. What is the best way to travel (being from the US not sure driving is a good choice for us - wrong side of the road and all)? Self guided tours or guided tours? Highland games? True Scottish culture is what we seek...

Does this give you more to go by? I appreciate your help!

The weather in Scotland, is at all time of the year pretty unpredictable, September can be a lovely month. The answer is layers and waterproofs.

Edinburgh is a great city and has plenty to offer, certainly worthwhile a couple of days. How do you intend getting out to Kirkwall, flights and ferries are the norm?

If you're going out to Orkney from Aberdeen, then Dunottar castle, Glamis castle, Dundee are all on route.

Public transport would see you right for many of your miles but bespoke private tours can open up more of the 'real' Scotland you seek.

You may be a little late for a Highland games, depending on your exact dates; more on them here; http://www.shga.co.uk/events.php
