what is the best method to get around Edinburgh? I will also be going to Melrose for 1 day.

I need suggestions of how to go to the main tourist sites in Edinburg for 2 to 2 1/2 days of site seeing. I also need suggestions for going to Melrose. Car? Bus? Train? Taxi?

    Hey @GaryM, from the eyes of a local I feel the best way to get around the city is using the excellent bus service if you're in a small group or taxi if you're in a large group. For going to Melrose, I recommend taking the Borders railway from Edinburgh Waverley to Galashiels and connecting to a Melrose bound bus 67 from there.

    Edinburgh is a very compact city so really there are only 3-4 zones where attractions are concentrated (eg Royal Mile, Holyrood, etc). If your group can walk 10-15 minutes without issues, you'll be able to see all attractions in a zone before taking a bus / taxi to the next zone.

    There are tourist sightseeing buses also run by the local bus company and they take the hassle of you having to research which local bus to take but don't add much more value for the price (£10+ vs £4 for a local bus day ticket).
