Scotland's great forest walks

With the glorious colours of a Scottish autumn starting to make their presence felt once again, it seemed like a good time to remind all community users of the fantastic resource we have in the various Forestry Commission parks around the country. Here are my favourites but it would be good to hear suggestions of others from other community users!

Galloway Forest Park - www.forestry.gov.uk/gallowayforestpark - this is a designated Dark Sky Park so great for star gazing, plus there's the 7stanes mountain biking centres, the wildlife hide at Kirroughtree Visitor centre and the red deer range

Tay Forest Park - www.forestry.gov.uk/tayforestpark - this includes the iconic view over Loch Tummel at Queen’s View. There are also the follies and view points at Craigvinean to enjoy and the stunning loch walk at Faskally

Glenmore Forest Park - www.forestry.gov.uk/glenmoreforestpark - Loch Morlich is great for canoeing, windsurfing or sailing - or just watching others do it! 

Argyll Forest Park - www.forestry.gov.uk/argyllforestpark  - Puck’s Glen is without doubt one of the most magical forests in Scotland

Kirroughtree, Dumfries & Galloway - http://scotland.forestry.gov.uk/forest-parks/galloway-forest-park/kirroughtree-visitor-centre - great dog friendly area, as it has lot of good walks and an open field for frizzbee games!

    Hi @Xmasgirl. The Queen Elizabeth Forest Park offer a wide variety of walking routes and many of these routes follow loch shores and gentle hillwalks. One of the routes takes you to Doune Hill where you will pass magical fairy houses carved into old tree trunks. Another route around Lochan Spling is very popular with families due to the sculptures that can be spotted along the way. The red squirrels are in abundance in this area and are fascinating to watch but there are so many other species of wildlife to be found it does make for a great day out!
