7 days of travel

We arrive at Edinburgh at sep 1th and we will travel to Aberdeen and stay there over one night and then go to Inverness and stay there for maybe 2 days. After that we are not really 100 % sure where to go. We are going by train/ bus so it have to be accessible by public transport, how would you travel to get the most from Scotland during these days? We fly from Edinburgh at sep 9th so wh plan one day stay there too to see the city!

    Good afternoon Swedishviking. Inverness is a perfect location in the North of Scotland to explore hidden gems. From the Highland Capital, you could travel up to Orkney and spend the night there (half day 3rd and 4th September respectively) and visit spectacular landmarks such as Skara Brae, St Magnus Cathedral or unique natural features such as the Old Man of Hoy. Next day, 5th September, depart Inverness in the morning and go over to Skye - one of Scotland's most popular destinations. Explore the island, which is connected to Mainland Scotland by bridge and see fascinating sites such as The Old Man of Storr and Dunvegan Castle. Following this, on the 6th September, head down to Fort William and Lochaber - home of Ben Nevis, Britain's highest mountain - before visiting the picturesque seaside town of Oban and neighbouring islands Mull & Iona on the 7th. On the 8th, visit Glasgow and experience the 'buzz' of Scotland's largest city which has excellent transport links with Edinburgh, the Capital, ahead of your flight from Edinburgh Airport on the 9th.     @Swedishviking  The key will be to try to plan ahead for your Highland Adventure.   Accommodation can become very busy so always try to book in advance if you can.   Bus services in the Highlands are good but not so frequent, so again planning ahead is advisable.

    You could perhaps take a CityLink Bus from Inverness to Skye, Inverness to Fort William/Oban or Inverness to Ullapool - all lovely destinations to explore. Buses between Inverness and Glasgow/Edinburgh are fairly frequent too.  See CityLink timetables here

    Also, with only one day to see Edinburgh, you will need to make the most of your time. Have a look at this itinerary:

    - go to the iCentre for some advice, a map and buy your fast-track tickets for Edinburgh Castle to avoid the queue.
