Trail Running in Scotland

I have recently (despite the protests of my knees) decided to take up hill and trail running and I'm curious to see if there are any other like-minded souls out there and whether you'd have any routes to share. I live in Drumnadrochit so route choices are good if I want to leave the car at home and run straight from the house.  Glen Coiltie and up to Meall Fuar Mhonaidh are all within wheezing distance :smile: I work away reasonably often throughout Scotland, with Edinburgh probably being my most common stop, so anything within easy reach of Leith would be good to hear about.

    If you're visiting Edinburgh then the Pentland hills are excellent for trail running. Flotterstone, just off the Biggar A720 road is one of my favourites. The route up to Scald Law is a challenging uphill trail or you can opt for a flat run following the pathway alongside Glencorse reservoir.

    Thanks @Winnie that sounds like a good place to start. I always used to view people who chose to run up hills as a special breed of crazy... changed days!

    Depending on where in Leith you are, the run from Leith round Arthur's Seat and back is a good 12km. You can obviously run up to the top of Arthur's Seat, but I find going round it is up-hill enough for me! (you do get pretty near the top at one point). And the view halfway round is brilliant. Agree with @Winnie and love the flat course around the reservoir at Flotterstone.

    I've just bought 'Classic Hill Runs and Races in Scotland' from Amazon. Feeling particularly enthused now, feels like I've discovered a whole new way to explore Scotland!
