I thought I'd create a thread where users can recommend hotels, hostels, inns, self-catering, campsites...
Anyway, to start us off:
INVERNESS: MacDonald House
Guesthouse/B&B

I've stayed here a few times - lovely location by the cathedral and the river, and a nice position near the city centre.
