I go away on a cycle tour every year and D&G was one of the best. Decent weather helped but the scenery is superb, the roads generally fairly quiet. Stayed overnight at Carlisle, Kirkcudbright and two nights at Stranraer. Went to Mull of Galloway, Scotland's most southerly point and even had a day trip to Belfast. Two particular routes stand out.:- from Newton Stewart via Wigtown to Whithorn then follow the road through Port William on the western side of Luce Bay. The next few miles are the highlight of this route. The other road north from near Newton Stewart off the A75 along the A712 through the Galloway Forest Park. I followed this road to Crocketford where I rejoined the A75. Brilliant trip
