Security
The routine security measures at Edinburgh Castle help us to manage a safe and secure site for staff and visitors. They do not relate to any specific threat.
Visitors to the castle should be alert to unusual activity, as in any other public place. Let a member of staff know at once if you see anything suspicious.
For reasons of ease of movement, visitor safety and general security, suitcases and large rucksacks are not permitted in the castle.
We are unable to store luggage, prams, pushchairs or other personal items for visitors.
Storage facilities are available at Waverley Train station, visit the Network Rail website for more information
We carry out random bag searches at the castle entrance as part of our security screening process. This may lead to slightly longer waiting times for entry, and we thank you for your patience and understanding.
You must not bring on site:
- firearms
- knives
- sharp items, including needles (medical equipment is permitted)
- drones
- explosives, including fireworks
- CS gas
Anyone found with such items may be denied entry to the site.
