Shrine base
Object Detail
This once formed the base of a tomb or shrine in the early medieval church that is now part of Glasgow Cathedral. It may have been associated with the shrine of St Kentigern, the first bishop within the ancient British kingdom of Strathclyde, who died in 614. Arched structures like this were sometimes used to enclose holy relics so passing pilgrims could see and venerate them.
