Multi-activity woodland park within Glasgow

Cuningar Loop is an exciting woodland park on the banks of the River Clyde. Enjoy a stroll along the riverside boardwalk or forest trails, relax with a picnic in the large open meadow, or have some fun at our bike skills area or in Scotland's first outdoor bouldering park.

Activities

Bike

The bike track is designed to introduce cycling to people with a wide range of abilities and ages. There are three tracks: balance bike, pump and skill building.

Bouldering

The bouldering area - Scotland's first outdoor bouldering park - is designed to introduce new climbers to the sport whilst providing facilities for the more experienced climber. A couple of boulders also have features to allow for para-climbing. We recommend that climbers use fall protection mats, as some of the boulders are over 4m high. Adventure play

The adventure play area is suitable for everyone and is designed to challenge users to explore the freedom of play in an active way.

Woodland workout

Come and try our new installations where you can exercise in the fresh air in a natural environment.

Walks

There are over 3 miles of paths on mixed surfaces which are accessible to everyone and have plenty of seating.

Cuningar Stones

The Cuningar Stones is a permanent public art project by Glasgow based artist James Winnett. The 15 stones can be found across the park, with many reflecting the history of the site and local area.

Sculpture

The impressive Evolve sculpture, created by Glasgow Rob Mulholland is located close to the south entrance to the site. The six-metre high stainless steel sculpture represents the transformation of Cuningar Loop from derelict land into the vibrant community woodland that it is today.

Parking

Picnic area

There are temporary toilet facilities (including accessible toilets) open from 9am – 5pm daily. We hope to have a more permanent and environmentally friendly solution in place shortly.

Car parking

The car park is managed by Glasgow Community Safety Team and will open:

• April – September 9am – 8pm
• October – March : 9am – 6pm

The British Geological Survey will be working at Cuningar Loop, in the area surrounding Cuningar Woodland Park, from 1st May 2019 until Spring 2020. They will be creating a UK Geoenergy Observatory on behalf of the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC). Getting here

There is a small car park just off Downiebrae Road at the public entrance to Cuningar Loop. There is also plenty of onstreet parking on Downiebrae Road itself, or on the streets surrounding the Cuningar Footbridge to the south of the Emirates Arena/Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome.

The Clyde Walkway (part of National Cycle Route 75) passes the Cuningar Footbridge if you'd like to walk or cycle to the park.

Public transport

There are regular buses between Glasgow and Rutherglen which run along Dalmarnock Road. There are also regular train services stopping at Dalmarnock and Rutherglen stations - Cuningar Loop is a 10 min walk from both stations. Plan your journey at Traveline Scotland.
